Social networking is considered a very big aspect in

today’s society. I believe that there are many positive

sides to it however there are numerous negative sides as

well.

When looking at the article “How Obama Really Did It” by David Talbot, it shows how thanks to social networking more people got involved and more things were done in less time and that is how he practically got more votes. It is very thrilling that all these messages, emails and pictures could be sent all over the world in a flash of a second to anyone.

However there are issues that were touched upon in on the PBS presentation that demonstrated how much influence "social networking " has on students of different ages. For the most part it shows all the negative view because of the social networking students become addicted to the computers so much that they spend most of their time chatting online. Also in this way they spent less “quality time“ with their families and more time isolated in their rooms chatting away. Then there was an example of how girls wanted to attract attention and fame by posting their half naked pictures on websites such as Facebook and Myspace.

Another very negative and disturbing problem is how over the net people could be convinced to commit crimes such as suicide and many others. There was an example in the PBS presentation where one student committed suicide by communicating with another male friend on the net.

I believe that social networking cuts down the person from the real world instead of going outside and breathing fresh air and meeting people in person. I believe that computers should be used for the school projects and email and exchange of some information however there should be a balance in between the two.

There should be a balance between the real world and the social networking world because we have to identify the difference between real world and the social networking world.
